A little history
Little is known of the origins of the parish of Montebourg, which appears in medieval sources in 1042 in an act of Guillaume de Normandie for the abbaye Saint-Vigor de Cerisy, in which he grants rights in the forest of Montebourg. However, at that time, there is as yet no mention of a community of inhabitants or of a parish. It was Guillaume who, in the second half of the 11th century, founded the abbaye Notre-Dame, which belonged to the ducal domain. The parish is mentioned again in acts of Duke Robert Courteheuse.
