A little history
The occupation of the Cailly valley is ancient. Fertile land, the presence of a river with fast-flowing water and nearby forest cover proved to be favourable conditions for human settlement. The place was certainly used by the Celts (Gauls) as a place of worship, hence its name Matrona meaning "mother goddess", particularly venerated on the banks of rivers, in this case the Cailly, a river that flows through this territory.
