A little history
Around 1137, Guillaume de Marcilly and his father Foulques founded the Cistercian abbey of Breuil-Benoît under the patronages of Notre-Dame and Saint Jean-Baptiste. After the Marcilly family came the families Estouteville, d'Alègre, du Fay and de Dyel. Antoine du Bosc was the last lord of the village. In 1140, monks sent out from the abbey of Breuil went on to found the abbey of La Trappe.
