Malaunay is a French commune situated in the département of Seine-Maritime in the Normandie region. It is one of the 71 communes of the Métropole Rouen Normandie. Situated in the valley of the Cailly, 15 km from Rouen, it is a peri-urban commune of 6,216 inhabitants.
A little history
Before the Revolution, the town comprised three parishes, Saint-Nicolas, Saint-Maurice and Notre-Dame-des-Champs, which became independent communes. It was not until 1813 that the three communes of Saint-Nicolas, Notre-Dame-des-Champs and Saint-Maurice were united into a single one, Malaunay. Hugues de Malaunay signed the convention of the Bourgeois de Rouen with Philippe Auguste on 1 June 1204 and fought alongside that prince at Bouvines (1214). Just as in Montville, the tornado of 1845 caused destruction in Malaunay.
