Le Tréport, the town

Le Tréport covers 6.8 km², lies between 0 and 103 m above sea level and had 4,378 inhabitants in the 2023 census.

Le Tréport is a French commune situated in the département of Seine-Maritime in the Normandie region. Along with Eu and Mers-les-Bains, it is one of the three principal towns of the urban unit of Eu, which forms part entirely of the intercommunality known as the communauté de communes des Villes Sœurs.

A little history

The abbaye Saint-Michel du Tréport, founded in 1053 by the Benedictines, disappeared at the Revolution. In 1339, at the beginning of the Hundred Years' War, sailors from the "Cinque Ports" set the town ablaze. Le Tréport's vocation as a seaside resort began under the reign of Louis-Philippe, when the family of this sovereign, residing regularly at Eu, inaugurated the fashion for sea bathing. The grand Parisian bourgeoisie was not long in having villas built along the seafront and in leading a fashionable social life there right up to the eve of the Second World War.
