La Haye is a French commune located in the département de la Manche in the Normandie region, with a population of 4,029 inhabitants. It was created on 1 January 2016 through the merger of nine communes, under the legal framework of communes nouvelles. The communes of Baudreville, Bolleville, Glatigny, La Haye-du-Puits, Mobecq, Montgardon, Saint-Rémy-des-Landes, Saint-Symphorien-le-Valois and Surville became communes déléguées.
A little history
In March 2015, the commune of La Haye-du-Puits and other communes of the former canton planned to join together in a commune nouvelle. Initially, the neighbouring commune of Neufmesnil was involved, but the municipal council voted against joining in April by five votes to five, with the mayor's casting vote prevailing in the event of a tie. Four councillors in favour of the commune nouvelle put their mandate back up for election, triggering a by-election. It was ultimately the members of the list supported by the mayor who were elected in September, which closed the matter for the commune.
