Jullouville (pronounced [ʒyluvil]), sometimes called Jullouville-les-Pins, is a French commune situated eight kilometres south of Granville in the département of Manche in the Normandie region. Born in 1973 from the grouping of Bouillon and Saint-Michel-des-Loups with the status of associated communes (and also with Carolles and Saint-Pair-sur-Mer at its creation), it is a tourist commune of the bay of Mont-Saint-Michel. From the hamlet of Bouillon in the mythical forest of Scissy to the seaside resort decided upon by Armand Jullou in 1882, Jullouville is today a commune in transition, asserting its seaside character whilst wishing to sustain and develop residential housing.
A little history
Jullouville has its origins in the village of Bouillon. In the 15th century, fisheries were established along the coastline, still visible today but no longer in use. In 1678, Jacques Le Royer (d), seigneur de La Blinière, is said to have written to King Louis XIV to request permission to drain the mare de Bouillon. Despite a positive response from Colbert, it never became a meadow.
