A little history
During the Gallo-Roman period, the town was called Iberium or Heriacum. In the Middle Ages, the town of Ivry, situated at the foot of its castle, was encircled by a wall pierced by fortified gateways. Around 1839, near the church, only the remains of one gateway survived, originally flanked by two towers built in irregular coursing. From this period, cellars hewn into the limestone remain at the base of the promontory overlooking the town, intended to house wine barrels, as vines were ubiquitous during the medieval era.
