The name of the commune comes from the merger in 1969 of the communes of Isigny and Le Buat. In 1973, the commune merged further with Les Biards, Chalandrey, La Mancellière, Le Mesnil-Bœufs, Le Mesnil-Thébault, Montgothier, Montigny, Naftel and Vezins, which retained the status of associated communes.
