A little history
A menhir in the bois de Milthuit as well as numerous discoveries of lithic material in the 19th and 20th centuries attest to the presence of a Neolithic population, in particular the discovery of a fragment of a cervidé antler axe sleeve bearing double lines of dots in a cross pattern, showing Maglemosian influence (north European Mesolithic). Merovingian sarcophagi were discovered beneath the courtyard of the foyer municipal. Before the 9th century, there were large monastic agricultural estates on the site of Couronne. The split between Grand-Couronne and Petit-Couronne must have occurred around the 12th century, at around the same time as that of Grand-Quevilly and Petit-Quevilly.
