A little history
Standing at an altitude of 124 metres, the Butte d'Ézy, known today as "la Butte à Cochon", named after a former clerk of the forest of Dreux, François Cochon, who became conservator of the Eaux et Forêts for the family d'Orléans and spent the last years of his life (1880/1890) persistently planting more than 80,000 fir trees on this spot, was a strategic point and an excellent observation point over the Roman road Lutèce-Ebrovicus (Paris-Évreux). A redoubt was established there during the feudal period. Further evidence of the ancient Ézy can be found in the cellars hewn into the marly limestone of the hill in the 18th century to store wine and thus avoid the octroi.
