A little history
The town of Criquetot-l'Esneval lies at the meeting point of roads of various importance, the grande communication road no 139 from Lillebonne to Antifer, no 39 from Tancarville to Étretat, and no 79 from Octeville to Fécamp. These routes all have, and in particular the last one mentioned, very ancient origins. The Roman road joining Harfleur to Fécamp passed not far from the tumulus situated at the centre of the town, and this fact alone allows one to suppose how the village came into being and how it grew. The area where Criquetot is located was a zone of passage for trade between what is now England and the south of Gaul, with a bronze industry on the banks of the Seine at Sandouville.
