Coteaux du Lizon has been, since 1 January 2017, a new French commune situated in the département of Jura, the cultural and historical region of Franche-Comté and the administrative region of Bourgogne-Franche-Comté. It is situated in the parc naturel régional du Haut-Jura.
A little history
Saint-Lupicin came into being with the construction of a monastery in the 5th century by the monk Lupicin de Lauconne and his brother Romain de Condat, who had previously built the chapelle de Saint-Romain de Roche for him, near the locality of Petit-Châtel. The monastic town was then named Lauconne, and remained so until around 1100, a name meaning "Entre-deux montagnes". In the era of Louis XIII, from the end of the 16th century to the beginning of the 17th century, the village, then known as Saint-Lupicin and forming part of the Comté, was threatened by the Saxes and the French. The situation was most troublesome for the village, which narrowly avoided being invaded on several occasions.
