A little history
The territory of Montmorot presents traces of very ancient human occupation. Lithic tools discovered notably at the hamlet of Grand Sugny attest to a human presence dating back to the Palaeolithic. These discoveries were studied by the archaeologist Louis-Abel Girardot, who attributed the earliest occupations of the site to Neanderthal groups dating back to approximately 145,000 years before our era. After the last glaciation, the settlement of Homo sapiens populations intensified and habitat sites multiplied, notably during the Magdalenian period (approximately 14,500 to 12,500 BC).
