A little history
The history of Conches begins around 1034, when the lords of Tosny, whose origins remain obscure, inherited this fief then known as Castellio in medieval Latin. In these times of pilgrimages, the lords of Tosny took part in one of the greatest, that of Saint-Jacques-de-Compostelle, in Spain. It was on the way back from one of these journeys that Roger Ier de Tosny stopped at Conques-en-Rouergue, a town situated at the crossroads of two routes to Saint-Jacques de Compostelle. The cult of sainte Foy, martyr of Agen, was fervently celebrated there.
