Châtenois-les-Forges is a French commune situated in the département of Territoire de Belfort, in Franche-Comté, in the administrative region of Bourgogne-Franche-Comté. Its inhabitants are called the Chatenais.
A little history
In 1147, Casteneyaco (Kestenholz in German) was home to a priory of the Order of Saint-Augustin whose chapel is thought to have served as the parish church. In 1300, a dispute between the prior of Châtenois and that of Lanthenans gave rise to legal proceedings whose traces can be found in the archives. This religious establishment, which ceased to depend on the priory of Lanthenans in 1435 in order to be attached to the chapter of Montbéliard, disappeared at the end of the 16th century. The current church was consecrated on 20 June 1745 to saint Étienne.
