Charbuy is a French commune situated in the département of l'Yonne in the région of Bourgogne-Franche-Comté. It forms part of the agglomération d'Auxerre and is a member commune of the Communauté de l'Auxerrois. Its inhabitants are known as the Charbuysiens.
A little history
Under the Ancien Régime, Charbuy (or Charbuis) was in Champagne, in the diocese of Auxerre, under the parlement and intendance of Paris, and in the élection of Tonnerre. Château de Beauretour (or Beaurepaire). Up until the middle of the 14th century, a château de Beauretour (in Latin Bellus reditus, also translated as Beaurepaire, which is the current name of the hamlet) was a property of the bishopric of Auxerre. It dated from no later than the 12th century, as the first mention of Beauretour, cited in the Mémoires concernant l'histoire ecclésiastique et civile d'Auxerre by the abbé Lebeuf, concerns Hugues de Noyers, 57th bishop of Auxerre 1183–1206, who made significant investments there and, according to Lebeuf, rendered Beauretour "digne d'un prince".
