A little history
The name Brécey does not appear for the first time until the 15th century, on various documents. The first village was most likely situated at the place currently known as le Vieux Bourg, at the crossroads of the Roman roads from Avranches to Vire and from Cotentin to Rennes. The ford across the Sée was later replaced by a stone bridge. The old village must have predated the Norman invasions, and had a church dedicated to Saint Martin.
