Bourogne is a French commune situated in the département of Territoire de Belfort, the cultural and historical region of Franche-Comté and the administrative region of Bourgogne-Franche-Comté. Its inhabitants are known as the Bourignais. The village hosts on its territory the military base of the 1er régiment d'artillerie since 1997.
A little history
The history and development of Bourogne are linked to its geographical position, which has made it a frequently travelled through place since the earliest times. The presence of prehistoric man is attested. The remains of a Gallo-Roman villa, including a fragment of mosaic (preserved at the musée de Colmar), were found beneath the église Saint Martin during restoration work on the bell tower in 1736. More recently, during preventive excavations carried out by the INRAP, post holes belonging to a possible outbuilding of the villa in question were found in the rue de la Croze.
