Bléneau is a French commune situated in Puisaye in the département of l'Yonne, in the région of Bourgogne-Franche-Comté.
A little history
Blanoilus is mentioned in 596 among 38 parishes of Puisaye listed in the ruling of saint Aunaire, 18th bishop of Auxerre from 572 to 603. Although the diocese was at the time as extensive as in the 19th century, only 37 parishes are cited, most of them — including Bléneau — "with their dependencies". Aunaire therefore cited only the principal places, which indicates that Bléneau held a certain importance at the time (Blanoilus cum appendicis suis). Guillaume de Toucy, 55th bishop of Auxerre from 1167 to 1181, granted to the chapter of canons of Notre-Dame de la Cité an annuity on the church of Bléneau. This is the earliest known text to mention the chapter of Notre-Dame de la Cité.
