Barenton (pronounced [baʁɑ̃tɔ̃]) is a French commune situated in the département de la Manche in the Normandie region, with a population of 1,161 inhabitants.
A little history
Jean de Tréhal, écuyer, seigneur de Laventure, and his brothers sold Barenton to the three Juhé brothers, by a contract drawn up in Rennes on 13 August 1478, for the sum of 1,460 livres tournois. Jean appears to have inherited from his two brothers, who were canons, and held la Filolaye alone, for which he was, in 1500 and again in 1501, obliged to compel Florentin Girard, seigneur of the second half of Barenton, to produce his title deeds for the submissions of his fief. The following year, in 1502, he had a legal dispute with the same seigneur over the payment of eight livres of rent, owed to the first fief of Barenton as recompense for the patronage of the church, which he had relinquished.
