From a historical and cultural standpoint, the commune forms part of the pays de Comminges, corresponding to the former comté de Comminges, a division of the province of Gascogne situated across the current départements of Gers, Haute-Garonne, Hautes-Pyrénées and Ariège. Exposed to a mountain climate, it is drained by the Rucan, the ruisseau du Soueil and various other small watercourses.
