A little history
A lithic station (a field of boulders with traces of prehistoric industry) was found off the coast of Agon-Coutainville, dating from the Chellean period of the early Quaternary, belonging to the end of the Lower Palaeolithic. This station has unfortunately disappeared, despite preservation work carried out in 1958. This discovery is said to have been confirmed by l'abbé Breuil, originally from Mortain, a great French archaeologist and specialist in the Palaeolithic period. It is worth recalling that during this period sea levels were much lower than they are today.
