Xertigny ([ɡzɛʁtiɲi] ou [sɛʁtiɲi]) is a French commune situated in the département des Vosges, in the Grand Est region. Its inhabitants are commonly known as the Xertinois(es). The scholarly designation Certiniaciens is no longer in use today.
A little history
Xertigny, Certinium, stood on the Roman road linking Bains-les-Bains to Baccarat. In 730, a nun, sainte Walburge, is said to have caused a spring to gush forth and she became the patron saint of the parish. In 1335, the community appointed a mayor. The Thirty Years War (1618-1648) raged at Xertigny.
