A little history
This inventory, requested by the house d'Ardennes at the origin of the founding of Épinal, notably its religious dimension with the female monastery of saint Goery, names the local church in the Romance language. The Latin text specifies that nearby or alongside, a locality known as ad vinciaco numbers twenty dwellings. In 1013, Thierry, bishop of Metz, confirmed these assets of the chapter of the Spinaliennes canonesses. Vincey appears there in the lapidary form of vinciaco.
