Villebon-sur-Yvette (pronounced [vilbɔ̃ sʏʁ ivɛt̪]) is a French commune situated in the département of Essonne in the Île-de-France region. An agricultural village until the end of the 19th century, located at the far end of the vallée de Chevreuse, Villebon-sur-Yvette experienced, from the beginning of the 20th century, development first as a holiday retreat and then as a residential area with the arrival of the railway, which makes it today a suburban commune of the urban unit of Paris. Benefiting from the presence within its boundaries of the parc d'activités de Courtabœuf, the Grand Dôme and the retail zone of Villebon 2, it has become one of the wealthiest communes in the département.
