A little history
It is in 606, in the founding charter of the abbaye de Flavigny-sur-Ozerain, that the first written trace of Semur is found, at that time named sene muro (old walls), thus highlighting the defensive and ancestral character of the site. In the Early Middle Ages, the nucleus of primitive dwellings was grouped around the meander of the Armançon. In the 11th century, Semur became the chief town of the comté d'Auxois, integrated into the duché de Bourgogne. Over the centuries, Semur developed.
