Saulxures-sur-Moselotte ([solsyːʁsyʁmozəlɔt]) is a mid-mountain commune in North-East France, in the département des Vosges, and was formerly the chief town of a canton in the arrondissement d'Épinal. It is one of the central towns of the unité urbaine de la Bresse. It forms part of the communauté de communes des Hautes Vosges.
A little history
Uninhabited before the 7th century, the upper valley of the Moselotte was first used during the Middle Ages as a route linking the monasteries of Remiremont and Munster. Gradually, settlements became established along this route. The lieu-dit Bois des Dames is a reminder of the walks taken by the canonesses of Remiremont. The first written record of the commune dates back to 910, noted down by those same canonesses.
