Rupt-sur-Moselle [ʁy syʁ mɔzɛl] is a French middle-mountain commune situated in the département des Vosges, in the Grand Est region. It is often simply called Rupt. It is situated in the massif des Vosges at an altitude of between 430 and 900 m.

A little history

The commune of Rupt-sur-Moselle dates from 1789. It was formed from part of the ban de Longchamp, which was a terre de surséance, an undivided possession of the duché de Lorraine and the abbaye de Remiremont. In 1832, the commune lost part of its territory (to the south-east) to the benefit of the creation of the commune of Ferdrupt. At a political level, the history of the commune from the Middle Ages to 1766 is closely tied to that of the duché de Lorraine, to which it belonged.
