A little history
Rambervillers is thought to take its name from an ancient Gallo-Roman estate (a villae) founded by a man named Ramberti, which in Latin was written Ramberti villae, meaning the estate of Ramberti. This is at least the commonly accepted etymology. It is not known whether this ancient agricultural centre stood on the exact site of the present-day town or slightly removed from it. No archaeological trace of the villa de Ramberti survives.
