A little history
The hamlet of Saint-Blaise is a crossing point on the Gallo-Roman Voie des Saulniers leading from Grand to the Rhine. The "rue de la saline" linking this hamlet to the town centre is moreover a reminder of the ancient use of this path. The etymology of the name of the commune comes obviously from the abbaye de Moyenmoutier. The monastery (moustier), founded in 671 by saint Hydulphe, was equidistant from those of Senones to the east, Étival to the west, Saint-Dié to the south and Bonmoutier (at Val-et-Châtillon) to the north. This ensemble forms what has been known since the modern era as the croix sacrée de Lorraine or croix monastique des Vosges.
