A little history
First attached to the quartier des Abymes, this stretch of land lies between the mangrove, the grands fonds viviers and the sugar cane plain. Throughout its history, it was successively named Case-aux-Lamentins, Vieux-Bourg, Grippon, Bordeaux-Bourg and finally Morne-à-l'Eau. The administration of the time long hesitated over the definitive location of the village. The place was named Case aux Lamentins by the Carib Indians because it was the favoured spot for the reproduction of manatees (Trichechus manatus).
