Martigny-les-Bains is a French commune located in the Vosges department, in the Grand Est region. Its inhabitants would apparently be called les Octoduriens, but nothing seems to justify this. Indeed, this designation is in principle reserved for the inhabitants of Martigny, a town located in Switzerland, and refers to the ancient Roman Octodure.
A little history
Legend has it that Julius Sabinus, a Lingon aristocrat who opposed the Romans during the Revolt of 69-70, and his wife Éponine, are said to have taken refuge in the underground space upon which the church was supposedly built. After the wars against France in the 17th century, the village comprised two sections, Martigny-Saint-Remy and Martigny-Saint-Pierre. The village of Dompierre, located 2 km away, between Martigny and Morizécourt, having Saint Pierre as its patron saint, had been entirely destroyed by the Swedes in the pay of the King of France.
