From a historical and cultural standpoint, the commune forms part of the pays d'Olmes, a landmark of the Cathar tragedy combining landscapes of great diversity. The first "town" was located in the village of Bensa, a priory founded by the monks of Saint Sernin de Toulouse in the 9th century.
