The Bourlémont family had the château de Bourlémont built in the 12th and 13th centuries on a promontory overlooking the Meuse valley. The first known mention of the seigneurie de Bourlémont dates from 1184. The legend of the Gué de Frebécourt. During the First World War the regimental headquarters left Isle-sur-Marne, near Saint-Dizier, on 2 January 1917, was stationed for a few days at Poissons (Haute-Marne) and settled on 28 January at Bourlemont-Frebecourt.
