A little history
A quartz scraper used for preparing hides, displaying facets resulting from the knapping of stone, was discovered at les Sèches-Tournées. It demonstrates the presence of nomadic populations in the prehistoric period who may have roamed the Hautes-Vosges in search of game. During Antiquity, the Roman road from Raon-l'Étape to Colmar crossed the heights of Scarupt to reach the col du Bonhomme and then descended into Alsace via Lapoutroie. At that time and in the vicinity of the Roman road, a number of clearings, spaced apart from one another, cut through the depths of the forest.
