Florac-Trois-Rivières is a French commune, situated in the Occitanie region, in the département of Lozère, of which it is the only sub-prefecture. Holding the administrative status of a commune nouvelle, it was formed from the merger on 1 January 2016 of the two communes of Florac and La Salle-Prunet.
A little history
In Antiquity, the region was occupied by the Gaulish people of the Gabales, clients of the Arvernes, whose king Vercingétorix led the Gaulish coalition opposed to Jules César during the Guerre des Gaules. Their capital was Anderitum, the ruins of which are situated near the modern village of Javols. The Gabales sent soldiers to Vercingétorix during the siege of Alésia in 52 BCE, an event marking the beginning of the history of France. The Roman victory at Alésia marked the end of the Gaulish coalition and the Arvernian king was compelled to lay down his arms and was taken prisoner in Rome.
