Langogne, the town

Langogne is a French commune situated in the north-east of the département of Lozère, in the Occitanie region. Exposed to a mountain climate, it is drained by the Allier, the Donozau, the Langouyrou, the Ribeyre, the Chasalde, the Réal and various other small watercourses. The commune possesses a remarkable natural heritage made up of six natural zones of ecological, faunal and floral interest.
A little history
The creation of the town of Langogne dates back to the founding of its monastery in 998. Analysis of the archaeological sites around the mont Milan suggests human activity at least during the 2nd and 1st centuries BC, that is to say between the end of the second Iron Age and the beginning of the Gallo-Roman period. Two important sites of archaeological remains (Lago and Coudelines) attest to a Gaulish presence in the valley of Naussac and whilst the draining of the reservoir in 2005 brought to the surface some remarkable pieces worthy of further study, the pages of history remain silent until the year 998, when the founding acts of the town, a key official text, mention Langogne for the first time.
