Dompaire is a French commune situated in the département des Vosges, in the Grand Est region. Its inhabitants are known as the Dompairois.
A little history
Dompaire belonged to the abbaye Saint-Pierre de Senones before the year 1111, thanks to a donation of the locality by dame Cunégonde in 1103. The bishop of Metz, Étienne de Bar, confirmed a right to a fair and a market in 1124. In the Middle Ages, Dompaire was a fortified town and was called Dompaire-le-Château. It was destroyed by Charles le Téméraire in 1475 and never fully recovered from its ruins.
