Courniou [kuʁ.ɲu] (en occitan Cornhon [kur.'ɲu]) est une commune française située dans le sud-ouest du département de l'Hérault, en région Occitanie. Exposée à un climat méditerranéen, elle est drainée par la Salesse, le ruisseau de Marthomis, le ruisseau de vertignol et par divers autres petits cours d'eau. Incluse dans le parc naturel régional du Haut-Languedoc, la commune possède un patrimoine naturel remarquable, un site Natura 2000 (la « grotte de la Rivière Morte ») et trois zones naturelles d'intérêt écologique, faunistique et floristique.
