Cheniménil ([ʃənimenil], in the mountain Vosgian dialect [ʃnimɛniː]) is a French commune situated in the département des Vosges, in Lorraine, in the Grand Est administrative region. Its inhabitants are known as the Chnérants. It is common to refer to this commune as "Chne" (pronounced accordingly).
A little history
The name Chinumasnil is recorded as early as 1156 in a document held in the archives of Meurthe-et-Moselle under reference H 333. Cheniménil formed part of the bailliage de Bruyères. There were, on its territory, three seigneuries, Saint-Pierre, Raigecourt (or Rachecourt) and Parois. At the Revolution, they were united and belonged to the lord of the village.
