A little history

In the Middle Ages, Châtel-sur-Moselle was a stronghold, founded in 1072. A Burgundian enclave within the duchy of Lorraine, the fortress belonged to the family de Vaudémont, then to the family de Neufchâtel. During the conquest of Lorraine by Louis XIV, the position was taken in September 1670 by the troops of the maréchal de Créquy, including the régiment d'Auvergne, which dismantled it the following year. On 11 September 1870, during his escape, général Ducrot passed through Châtel.
