Châtel-Censoir is a French commune on the banks of the Yonne, situated in the département of Yonne in the région of Bourgogne-Franche-Comté.
A little history
It appears that saint Censure (who died in 502) had a château built on the site, then donated his châtellenie of Censoir to the chapter of Auxerre. The lord of the area was therefore the bishop of Auxerre from the beginning of the 6th century onwards. A fortified château existed at the summit of the hillock before the first Christian place of worship was built, next to the château and probably on the site of a former pagan place of worship. During the Middle Ages this château became one of the seven châtellenies of Donzy.
