A little history
The history of Bruyères was richer in events during the Ancien Régime owing to its status as chef-lieu, successively of a mairie, a prévôté, a siège bailliager and a bailliage. Furthermore, Bruyères was the chef-lieu of a vast gruerie until 1747, and the municipal archives hold numerous documents rich in diverse information relating to this. The presence of the political and judicial representatives of the various sovereigns was the source of a centripetal and cumulative attractiveness from the mountain towards the chef-lieu.
