Bletterans is a French commune situated in the département du Jura, in the cultural and historical region of Franche-Comté and the administrative region of Bourgogne-Franche-Comté. The inhabitants are called Bletteranois and Bletteranoises.
A little history
Bletterans, situated in the region of Gaul inhabited by the Séquanes, was attached under Jules César to Séquanie, with Besançon as its capital. The region, at the mercy of invasions, treaties and political manoeuvring, would pass through many rulers' hands. Administered by a Burgundian count, it took the name of Comté, then of Franche Comté under the count Renaud. In 1157, the Comté passed to Frédéric Barberousse, Emperor of Germany.
