Ban-de-Laveline is a French commune situated in the Vosges massif, in the Pays de la Déodatie, to the east of the département des Vosges. Situated in the historic and cultural region of Lorraine, the commune is now part of the Grand Est administrative region. The name Ban-de-Laveline was substituted for that of Laveline by decree of 15 August 1903.
A little history
The origin of the town is intimately linked to the monastic expansion in the valley of the Haute-Meurthe. Between 670 and 700, the monks of the chapter of Saint-Dié established a first ecclesiastical settlement (or cell) dedicated to the Assumption of the Virgin Mary near the present-day hamlet of Honville. This religious nucleus encouraged the agricultural development of the surrounding land. Around this estate, a significant agricultural operation developed, designated by the name of "grande ferme de Hunnus", an expression of local toponymy at the origin of the name of the hamlet of Honville.
