From a historical and cultural standpoint, the commune forms part of the Lauragais, the former « Pays de Cocagne », linked both to the cultivation of pastel and to the abundance of its produce, and to the « grenier à blé du Languedoc ». Exposed to a Mediterranean climate, it is drained by the canal du Midi, the Fresquel, the Lampy, the Vernassonne, the ruisseau de Rebenty, the ruisseau du Reboulidou and by various other small watercourses.
