Since 1 January 1974 it has incorporated the associated communes of Fargniers and Vouël, and since 1 January 1992 the associated commune of Quessy. The town, whose development took place during the 19th and 20th centuries thanks to the railway and its important depot, was destroyed during the First and Second World Wars.
