A little history
At this location, the Roman road between Salins and Dijon, used to transport Comtois salt, crossed the Saône. The settlement was situated opposite on the other bank, at Losne. Notre-Dame-de-Losne, a priory dependent on Cluny, was located there (its temporality did not become dependent on the abbaye Saint-Vivant de Vergy until 1616, this abbey itself being a dependency of Cluny). Its foundation is said to date, according to Mabillon, from the 7th century, and this establishment was the seat of a bishopric. Its church remained co-cathedral of the bishopric of Chalon until the middle of the 18th century.
