Its population is 1,533 inhabitants at the 2023 census. It is a member of the communauté de communes de Pouilly-en-Auxois - Bligny-sur-Ouche.
A little history
The agglomeration of Pouilly, originally situated on the heights, was gradually rebuilt in the valley from the 16th century onwards, when the walls and castles built by the ducs de Bourgogne had lost all their military effectiveness. During the revolutionary period of the Convention nationale (1792–1795), the commune bore the abbreviated name of Pouilly and then of Pouilly-en-Montagne. A railway station operated in the commune from 1891 to 1953, situated on the line from Êpinac-les-mines to Pouillenay. In 1969, the mayor Pierre Bordereau inaugurated the section of the autoroute A6 Avallon-Pouilly with President Georges Pompidou.
